Mesa State fell to Metro State 5-4 in a league contest that came down to the final match. Metro took a 2-1 lead winning number one and three doubles. MSC's number two team of Jaco Gerbrands and Joseph Aragon won 8-4 for the lone double point.
Metro won the dual taking three of the six singles matches to narrowly defeat the young Mavericks. Mesa State's Andres Hernandez won 6-3, 6-3 at number three singles. Aragon defeated his opponent at number four singles with a score of 6-3, 7-5. Jonathan Casson won in three sets at number five singles. Casson dropped the first set 4-6, but rallied back to win 6-3, 6-2.
Western New Mexico, ranked number one in the region, swept the Mavericks 9-0, Saturday morning. The Mustangs won all six singles in straight sets. Gerbrands and Aragon dropped a close match at number two doubles, falling 8-6.
MSC will travel to Pueblo this weekend for three conference matches versus host CSU-Pueblo, Neb.-Kearney and Montana State Billings.
