Final Round Results
Mesa State women's golf team won the ThunderWolf Ladies Spring Invitational by three strokes over Montana State Billings Sunday afternoon at the Desert Hawk Golf Course in Pueblo West, Colorado.
MSC shot a two-round total 661 (+85) to finish ahead of MSU-Billings 664 (+88) team total. The field consisted of eight teams with host CSU-Pueblo finished third (671) and Adams State College placing fourth (678). Colorado Christian (711), Chadron State (715), Regis University (728) and Okla-Panhandle State finished fifth through eighth respectively. MSC led by three strokes over MSU-Billings following day one's action.
Junior Jennifer Hilts (82-77-159) placed second overall carding a two-round total 159. MSU-Billings' Melissa Saken (78-79-157) took top individual honors shooting a 157. Hilts shot a 77 final round to climb from fourth (tied) place after round one to capture second place. Saken led from start to finish on the Par 72 course becoming the only player to shoot back-to-back rounds in the 70's.
MSC's Jessica Berve (84-80-164) finished fifth overall at 164. Michelle Stripp (84-84-168) tied for 10th place and Afton Balling (85-86-171) finished in 12th place. Kristina Casillas (84-89-173) placed 14th overall.
Hilts was second overall and tied with teammate, Stripp in Par 3 scoring (+2). Hilts and Saken tied at the top in Par 4 scoring (+8) and Hilts posted 21 pars to lead the tournament with CSU-Pueblo's Dominique Dinallo. Jessica Berve led the team and ranked third overall in Par 5 Scoring at +2.
MSC will travel to Phoenix, Arizona to play in the Grand Canyon Invitational, April 4-5 at Palm Valley Golf Club.
