Mavs handle Lopers 86-76

Michael Bear's career high 31 points led the Mavericks (13-7, 9-7) Friday night to a 86-76 win over visiting Neb.-Kearney (8-12, 6-10) in RMAC action at Brownson Arena.

MSC had four players register double digit figures as the Mavericks shot 58 percent (28-48) from the field. Nate Nelson finished with 14 points going 7 for 10 from the floor. Kalonji Paschal had 12 points including 8 of 12 from the foul line. Jeff Hart was perfect from the field (4-4) and finished with 10 points.

Bear's 31 points off the bench included 3 of 4 from the 3-point line and 12 of 13 from the free throw line. He had five rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 26 minutes of action.

MSC led 42-27 at half as the Lopers shot 32 percent (8-25) from the field. UNK made several runs in the second half cutting the deficit to single digits with a 16-8 run to start out the second half to pull to within 43-50. MSC quickly widened the gap to 14 points and held a double digit lead for the next six minutes. UNK closed the gap to seven with 6:02 remaining (68-61). MSC maintained their lead despite UNK's 9-2 run in the final two minutes. MSC hit 6 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

UNK had three players in double digits, led by Max Froehlich's 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.

MSC will host Chadron State, Saturday at 7 p.m.
