Mavs put away T-Wolves 82-70

Mesa State (9-4, 6-3) earned their fifth road victory defeating CSU-Pueblo 82-70 Friday night at Massari Arena on the campus of CSU-P. The loss dropped the T-Wolves to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in league action.

 

Tara Gehring and Kelsey Sigl led the Mavs with 22 points each and combined for nine rebounds and six assists. Gehring tallied 14 points in the first half and finished her career high point total game hitting 8 of 11 from the field (5 treys).  Gehring played 24 minutes off the bench.

 

Sigl scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half and finished 9 off 11 from the foul line. Sigl had seven rebounds and three assists.

 

Sharaya Selsor finished with 11 points and Katrina Selsor , who starred for the T-Wolves a year ago, led all players with nine rebounds and five assists.

 

MSC held a 34-28 halftime lead behind Gehring's hot hand. Gehring played 13 minutes in the first half hitting 5 0f 7 from the field; 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.

 

CSU-P trailed by six points with 2:42 left in the game when the T-Wolves began to foul, sending the Mavs to the line. MSC hit 14 of 15 free throws in the final minutes to seal the victory.

 

MSC shot 49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor and 80 percent (20-25) from the free throw line. MSC held a 39-30 rebound edge and finished with 16 assists and eight steals.

 

CSU-P shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor and 8 of 16 (50%) from the foul line. The T-Wolves had three players register double figures led by Rachel Espinoza's 16 points.

 

MSC will play at UC-Colorado Springs Saturday evening.
