Mesa State Head Football Coach Joe Ramunno has announced Shawn Marsh will join the 2011 coaching staff as Associate Head Coach/CO-Offensive Coordinator.
“We are excited for the opportunity to have Coach Marsh back with us and the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm he will bring to our program”, said Coach Ramunno.
Marsh is no stranger to Maverick athletics having coached most recently on the 2009 staff. He assisted Coach Ramunno in the 1998 season and played collegiately for the Mavericks from 1988-1992.
Coach Marsh began his coaching career as an assistant with Ramunno's staff at Palisade High School in 1992. He has coached at each of the area four high schools; most recently as Head Football Coach at Fruita Monument High School last fall. In 2005 as head coach at Grand Junction High School he guided the football team to a 13-1 record and eventual state runner-up in the 4A title game.
His first head coaching job was in 1995 at Paonia High School.
Marsh will replace Jon Boyer who was hired at University of Northern Colorado.
Marsh will begin his duties immediately and assist in the recruiting process as the coaching staff prepares for signing day, Wednesday, February 2nd. MSC begins spring practice March 26.
Shawn and his wife Jennifer have been married 17 years and have two children, Madison (15) a freshman at Grand Junction High School and Max (9), a third-grader at Tope Elementary. Jennifer is the High School Special Education Coordinator for School District 51.
