Mesa State men defeated University of Northern Colorado 4-3 Sunday morning in Greeley in a schedule dual match with the Division I Bears.
The Mavericks won 2 of the 3 doubles matches for 1 team point and won 3 of the 6 singles matches to clinch the dual victory. Division I institutions reward one point for the team who wins 2 of the 3 doubles pro-set matches and one point for each of the six singles matches.
Rashad Khamis (#2), Andres Hernandez (#3) and Brason Hollabaugh (#5) each won their singles match in straight sets. The 3 singles points combined with the doubles point clinched the 4-3 team score. Hernandez and Hollabaugh went undefeated on the day winning 8-3 at number three doubles. Number one doubles team of Jordan Chomko and Nick Provenza won 8-2 at the number one slot.
Thursday in Denver the Mavs dropped an 8-1 decision to Midwestern State (TX). MSC's number 2 doubles team of Rashad Khamis and Niko Carrizo defeated their opponent for the lone Maverick victory.
Jordan Chomko went three sets at number one singles before falling to Bo Zaputovic in a third set tie break, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4).
MSC will travel to Kearney, NE for three matches this weekend. The Mavs will play Minnesota State Mankato, NE-Omaha and Hastings College.
