The Mesa State Wrestling team fell last night to rival 12th ranked Western State, 26-9. The Mountaineers won 7 of the 10 matches en route to the win.
Redshirt Freshman
Tyler Nelson won at 125 pounds to start the night defeating Western's Kyle O'Brien 8-6 in overtime. Nelson was pinned by O'Brien earlier in the season at the Old Chicago Open at Northern Colorado. Nelson evened his record on the season at 13-13.
Freshman
Trevor Donarski won his bout at 141 pounds over Mountaineer Jesse Cruz 10-5. Donarski has filled in well for National Qualifier
Rhett Breed and has improved his record to 17-10.
Matthew Chavez was the other winner on the night at 184 pounds. Chavez wrestled up two weight classes from his normal 157/165 pounds and defeated Justin Keys of Western State, 5-1. Chavez is now 3-6 on the season and 1-1 in the RMAC.
Mesa State will be back in action tomorrow night (February 12th) against CSU-Pueblo. The Mavericks will honor the three seniors on the team this season
Cole Johnson, Andy Laiminger, and
Chase Walker. The dual is set to commence at 7:00pm
