Golf Team Wins ThunderWolf Invite

Second straight team title

Mesa State women's golf team won the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolf Invitational by 14 strokes over second place Montana State Billings at Walkingstick Golf Course in Pueblo Tuesday afternoon. MSC shot a two-day total 667, cutting 17 strokes (325) off their first round 342.

Junior Kristina Casillas was second overall carding a 164, one stroke behind champion Kendall Martin's (Adams State) 163. Sophomore Jennifer Hilts tied for third at 165. Casillas and Hilts each shot a tournament low 79 in round two. Jessica Berve (169) and Atfon Balling (170) finished eighth and ninth respectively. Brooke Jorgensen tied for 25th at 179.

The Mavericks led from start to finish and held a four stroke (342) lead after day one. Tuesday Casillas and Hilts shaved seven and eight strokes respectively off round one. Berve's second day round of 81 was seven strokes lower than Monday's round.

MSC has now won back-to-back tournaments with the win at the Adams State Invitational two weeks ago to open the 2009 fall season.

Next up for the Mavericks is the Grand Canyon Invitation in Goodyear, Ariz. at the Coldwater Golf Club on September 28-29.
