Mesa State women's golf team leads the Grizzly Invitational by 10 strokes following day one at the Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa, CO. The Mavericks shot a round one team total 319 (+35), holding a 10 stroke lead over second place Regis University (329). MSC is one of nine teams in the fall RMAC season opener.
Junior transfer Kristina Casillas is tied for third place carding a 77, six strokes over par, trailing day one leader Sara Wissing (Neb.-Kearney) by two strokes (75). Montana State Billings' Kalli Stanhope holds down second place (76). Casillas and Regis' Lara Pocs are tied for third place. Casillas led the field of 49 in par 4 scoring (+1).
Returning players Jennifer Hilts (79), Jessica Berve (81) and Afton Balling (82), each finished day one in the top 8. Hilts is in fifth place while Berve and Balling are tied for sixth and eighth place respectively. Casillas, Berve and Balling each posted two birdies in round one.
Brooke Jorgenson and Michelle Stripp shot 88 and 89 respectively.
The final round will be played Tuesday morning with the first group teeing off at 9:10 am. The final group is set to tee off at 10:00 a.m.
