MSC men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to visiting CSU-Pueblo Saturday night at the Grand Junction Tennis Center. The loss dropped the team to 10-3 overall and 0-2 in league action.
Jordan Chomko and Nick Provenza were responsible for three of the Mavs four points. Chomko and Provenza won 8-4 at number one doubles over Richard Oaxaca and Beau Fresquez. In singles action Chomko and Provenza each won in straight sets at number one and number two singles respectively. Number five singles player Niko Carrizo defeated Finn Gunther for the team's fourth point.
CSU-Pueblo won two of three doubles matches including a 9-8 contest at number three doubles. CSUP took the 2-1 lead following doubles action needing just three of the six singles matches to clinch the dual. CSUP won at number three, four and six singles in straight sets for the victory.
MSC was scheduled to play Colorado Christian this weekend but due to a spring storm the match was canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Mavericks will travel to Pueblo next weekend for key RMAC matches. MSC will face Western New Mexico, Montana State Billings and CSU-Pueblo.
