Tennis Team Beats Hastings, 8-1

Mavs win home opener

Mesa State men's tennis team defeated Hasting College (NE) 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at the Elliott Tennis Center on the campus of Mesa State College.

MSC swept doubles play, entering singles play with a 3-0 lead. The Mavericks won five of the six singles match-ups, winning four of the five matches in straight sets.

Junior Jordan Chomko defeated Will Hotz 6-7 (7), 6-1, 10-8, in the battle of number ones in singles action. After dropping the first set tie break, Chomko won the third set super tie break for the victory.

MSC won number three through six singles, all in straight sets to improve their overall record to 7-1. Rashad Khamis allowed just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Travis Bronson. Niko Carrizo won 6-3, 6-0 over Chris Ondrey at number four singles. Kevin Nydam won 6-3, 6-2 and William Kellar won 6-4, 6-1 at number five and six singles respectively.

Hastings win came at number two singles with Tyler Benson pulling out a three set super tie-break victory over MSC's Nick Provenza, 1-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Mesa State will return to action March 26 when they host RMAC foe Colorado Christian at 3 p.m.
