Mesa State women's tennis team won five of the six singles matches on the way to a 7-2 win over Western New Mexico in Silver City on Wednesday afternoon. The team improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in league play with the win over the Mustangs.
All five of the singles victories were won in straight sets. MSC's number one player Kate Lowder fell to WNMU's Nikolina Vikadin in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (10-7), 10-7 in the super tiebreak.
Lowder and partner Victoria Sargent won 8-4 at number one doubles. The number 3 doubles team of Renee Demianew and Mandie Divino defeated their opponents 8-3.
MSC posted a 6-0 record on the spring break trip to Phoenix, Ariz., that included wins over Grand Canyon University and four area junior colleges. Number 3 singles player Renee Demianew, #4 Kaitlin Sera and #6 Mandie Divino went undefeated in singles play.
MSC returns home to host Bethany College on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
