Mavs Fall to Adams in OT, 74-67

Second OT loss to Grizzlies

Box Score

Saturday night the Mesa State Mavericks hosted the Adams State Grizzlies at Brownson Arena. The Grizzlies came in to the game with the better record of 12-12 (8-8 RMAC), but the Mavs had the home court advantage with over 450 fans in attendance. For the second time this season the two teams needed an overtime period to decide the winner. The Grizzlies won the first meeting in Alamosa and outscored MSC 19-12 in overtime, handing the Mavericks a 74-67 loss.

Mesa State took the quick lead with a three pointer and started to build their lead up. For the first ten minutes of the period, it was all home team with MSC holding a 22-10 lead. But the Grizzlies started their come back, tying the game 22-22 in a span of six minutes. MSC held a 28-27 halftime lead after Heather Habekost sank two free throws.

The Grizzlies dominated the first four minutes of the second period and increased the score to 35-28. MSC regained the lead at the 12 minute mark but the teams went back-and-forth the last ten minutes of the second period. As time expired in regulation MSC's Alishea Kelly's jumper rimmed out forcing the game in to overtime.

Adams State went on a 7-1 run to open the extra period and never trailed on the way to capturing their ninth RMAC victory (13-12, 9-8). The loss dropped the Mavericks to 5-20, 2-15.

Stephanie Delgado led the way for the Mavs finishing with a team high 17 points and six rebounds. Hannah Breidel added 15 points, including 10-first half points.

MSC will wrap up seasons play on the road next weekend at New Mexico Highlands on Friday and at CSU-Pueblo on Saturday night. Both games are set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
