Box Score Mesa State women's basketball (1-3, 0-1) dropped a close contest on the road to Colorado Christian 46-40 in Lakewood Friday night. The game marked the start of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Mavs will play each east division team once before beginning home and away series with their own west division foes starting the end of January.
MSC led 27-21 at half but were outscored 25-13 in the second half. The Mavericks dressed just seven players due to numerous early season injuries. Six of the seven players played over 25 minutes including Jennifer Landers who played all 40 minutes.
Courtney McCaig finished with a team high 11 points. McCaig was a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul line and pulled down six rebounds. Landers posted eight points and a team high eight rebounds.
Colorado Christian was led by Juanise Cornell's 13 points and 15 rebounds.
MSC was 15 of 19 from the foul line while the Cougars made just 1 of 8. CCU scored 21 (7-31) of their 46 points from the 3-point line.
The Mavericks will play at Colorado School of Mines Saturday night. The Orediggers defeated Western State 66-52 Friday night in Golden.
