Friday night the Mavericks (2-2) home opener in the Holiday Inn Thanksgiving Classic was a 91-51 win over Colorado College (1-4). Both teams entered the contest with one win and for the first ten minutes it looked like it was an even matchup. But then the Mavs got on roll for the rest of the period and outscored the Tigers 25-10 and held a 46-29 halftime lead.
The second half was more of the same as MSC extended the lead, holding CC to just seven baskets and a 28.6 second half shooting percentage. MSC shot 52.9 percent in the victory.
Four Maverick players scored in double digits led by senior center Kurt Bangle who racked up a total 16 points in 23 minutes of action. Andre Carter finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Jase Herl and Jake Swartzendruber each finished with 11 points. Herl posted a double-double grabbing a game high 11 rebounds. All 13 Mavericks who entered the game scored at least one point.
MSC will play Johnson & Wales Saturday night at 8 p.m. The Wildcats lost to Western State earlier tonight, 79-73.
