GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's golf team will open up the 2026-27 campaign on Sunday, competing in the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational in Sheridan, Wyoming.
 
The Mavericks are one of a dozen teams slated to compete in what is an unusual 54-hole, 3-day event that will run through Tuesday.  South Dakota Mines is hosting the tournament that will be played at The Powder Horn Golf Club.
 
The tournament will also be contested under the play six, score four format.  In that format, the best four scores from a team in each round will be counted towards the team score.
 
Live scoring is slated to be available throughout the tournament here.
 
Who's Competing
 
Maverick Head Coach Kori Satterfield's planned 6-woman lineup includes four returning players and a pair of newcomers.  The list of returners includes fifth-year Libby Bourassa, junior McKenzie Dolph, junior Hunter Gledhill and sophomore Hayden Hawley.
 
Gledhill and Hawley are slated to play in the No. 1 and 2 positions, respectively, while Bourassa and Dolph are penciled in for the No. 5 and 6 spots.
 
Transfer Allison Sanger, who has played at Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Chadron State for the past two years, is planned for the No. 3 position while freshman Brooke Brekke is anticipated to make her collegiate debut in the No. 4 spot.
 
The Opposition
 
The list of 12 teams expected to play, includes seven of the ten RMAC women's golf sponsoring institutions.  That list includes the Mavs, Adams State, Black Hills State, Chadron State, CSU Pueblo and Westminster.
 
The other five teams in the expected field hail from four other NCAA Division II conferences around the Western United State.  Included in that group are Great Northwest Athletic Conference members MSU Billings and Westmont, Augustana out of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Texas A&M International from the Lone Star Conference and Westmont out of the Pacific West Conference.
 
CSU Pueblo finished 16th at last year's NCAA Division II National Championships after winning the RMAC title and placing third at the West Regional.  The ThunderWolves, Augustana, Texas A&M Internation and Westmont all competed in the NCAA Championships at the regional level.
 
In the Polls
 
The RMAC released its' preseason coaches' poll on Aug. 25.
 
The Mavericks received one first place vote and were picked fourth overall in that poll after receiving 60 total points.  They were also named third on three other ballots.
 
CSU Pueblo received four first place and five second place votes to top the poll with 76 points, edging Westminster's total of 74.  The Griffins also picked up four first place votes and had three second place predictions as well as two third place nods.
 
Chadron State was picked sixth out of ten while South Dakota Mines was tabbed in a tie for seventh.  Black Hills State and Adams State rounded out the poll.
 
Augustana has been picked fourth out of 14 teams in the NSIC poll.  The GNAC, Lone Star and PacWest have not yet announced any preseason polls.
 
A look back
 
The Mavericks capped the 2025-26 season with a fourth place finish at the RMAC Championships in Boulder City, Nevada.  The Mavs posted a final score of 758 (+38), from 2 ½ rounds after the final round was truncated to nine holes due to weather conditions.
 
Hunter Gledhill led the Mavs at the conference tournament, tying for fifth with a final score of 186 (+6).
 
She also finished third on the Maverick squad with her season-long 78.88 scoring average and is slated to help lead this year's team following the graduation of Anju Ogi and Payton Panzeri, the latter of which is now CMU's assistant coach.
 
The Mavericks finished the 2025-26 season with a team 315.80 scoring average and had a best round to open the RMAC Championships.
 
Hayden Hawley and Ogi both had rounds of 1-under par 71 during the season while Gledhill posted an even par round of 72 on the first day of the RMAC Championships.
 
Returning to Wyoming
 
The Mavs also competed in last year's Travis Roy Memorial Invitational, finishing third out of 12 teams with a 36-hole score of 612.  The Mavs posted rounds of 304 and 308 in the Sept. 15-16 tournament.
 
Gledhill, who finished in a tie for 11^th, Hawley, who tied for 35^th and Libby Bouraassa, who placed 42^nd, were all a part of the Maverick lineup alongside Panzeri and Ogi, who both recorded top 10 finishes.
 
Returning Stats
 
Gledhill, who is entering her junior year with the Mavs, has been a 2-year starter and has posted a 78.84 careering scoring average in 40 ½ rounds over the first two seasons at CMU.
 
She and Hawley, who posted an 81.32 scoring average to rank fourth on the 2025-26 edition of the Maverick roster, played in all ten tournaments last season.  They combined to record five top-10 finishes throughout the year.  Gledhill also had three top five finishes.
 
McKenzie Dolph played in seven tournaments last year, recording an 82.48 scoring average.  She has a 84.68 career average in 35 ½ rounds.
 
Libby Bourassa also returns to the Maverick roster after posting a 83.57 scoring average while playing in nine tournaments.  She had redshirted in 2024-25.
 
Becca Washington also returns after posting an 88.80 scoring average in five tournaments as a freshman.
 
Dates for the Calendar
 
The Mavericks are slated to compete in five tournaments this fall.  Following the opener in Wyoming, the Mavs will have a quick turn-around before playing in the Wasatch Invitational in South Jordan, Utah on the following Sunday and Monday, Sept. 20-21.
 
They will then play at the Nick Turner Invitational in Durango, Colorado on Oct. 5-6 before heading to Rapid City, South Dakota for the Oct. 12-13 Hardrocker Invitational, which South Dakota Mines will host.
 
They will then wrap up the fall at the Las Vegas Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Course.  That tournament will be played over three days from Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
 
Meet the Newcomers
 
CMU Head Coach Kori Satterfield successfully recruited three new players to the 2026-27 squad, including freshman Brooke Brekke and Lilyanna Hathaway and transfer Allison Sanger.
 
Brekke hails from Atwater, Minnesota and was a multiple-sport star at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School.  She won 43 conference golf meet titles throughout her career and claimed 18 invitational medals.  She was third, third and second at the last three sectional tournaments and placed third and seventh in state tournaments.
 
Hathaway, who hails from the Denver suburb of Littleton, played golf for Columbine High School and attended Summit Academy South for her academics.  She was a regional and state championship qualifier for three straight years.

Sanger, who is originally from Windsor, Colorado, spent the past two years at Chadron State and was a regular in the Eagles' lineup.  She finished 18^th at last year's RMAC Championships, in what was one of her four top ten finishes.  She had two such efforts as a freshman and finished 41^st at the conference meet.
 
In high school, she was an All-Northern Colorado Athletic Conference selection as a senior in the spring of 2024.
