COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's golf team received one first place vote and came in fourth overall in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll, released this week by league officials.
 
The Mavericks, who finished fourth at last year's RMAC Championships, picked up 60 points in the poll of the conference's ten head coaches, who ranked their opposition first through ninth without voting for their own squad.
 
The Mavs picked up nine points for the first place vote they received also garnered four other third place votes, good for seven points apiece.
 
CSU Pueblo, which has won the last five RMAC titles, topped the poll with 76 points and received four first place predications as well as five second place votes.  Westminster was second in the poll with 74 points and was able to pick up four first place, three second place and a pair of third place votes.  The Griffins and Colorado Christian, which finished third in the poll with 63 points, tied for second at last year's RMAC Championships.  CCU also received one first place vote in the poll.
 
The Mavericks are well above MSU Denver and the bottom half of the ten teams in the poll.  MSU Denver finished fifth with 41 points while Chadron State claimed a third place vote and is sixth in the RMAC poll with 37 points.
 
South Dakota Mines and Fort Lewis tied for seventh with 35 points while Black Hills State (18) and Adams State (11) rounded out the poll.
 
The Mavericks will open their season at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite at The Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan, Wyoming.  That tournament will be played Sept. 13-15.
