Mavs to wrap-up non-conference play with neutral site contest

CMU to take on Rockhurst in Pueblo

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's lacrosse team will look to complete the non-conference portion of the schedule on a high note when they travel to Pueblo, Colorado to take on Rockhurst University in a neutral-site game at CSU Pueblo's Art & Lorriane Gonzales Stadium.

First draw is slated for 2 p.m. and can be seen with a subscription to the RMAC Network (details below).

The Mavericks will enter the game with a 1-5 overall record against a challenging slate that has seen the Mavs play four nationally-ranked teams. The Hawks are a perfect 4-0 thus far in 2026.

Last Times Out

The Mavericks completed a 3-game homestand last Saturday and Monday.

They came out on top in a thrilling 15-14 win over nationally-ranked (No. 16) Florida Tech on Saturday but dropped a 9-7 decision to Northern Michigan on Monday afternoon.

In the win over Florida Tech, Courtney Havel scored the game-winning goal with 24.2 seconds remaining after Carson Dickey tied the game just less than 30 seconds earlier.  The lead changed hands six times as Dickey and Cameron Flynn both scored four goals while Havel registered her first two of the season.

The Mavs' defense was then strong in Monday's contest against undefeated Northern Michigan as Heather Hawkins made a season-high 13 saves as the Mavs held the Wildcats well below their scoring average of 16.75 goals per game.  They also caused 11 of the Wildcats' 15 turnovers as nine different Mavs had at least one caused turnover.

The Mavs led 3-1 in the game's first five minutes and by a 4-2 score at the end of the first quarter.  They also had a 5-3 lead early in the third before a 4-goal Wildcat run reversed the scoreline.

CMU did tie the game at seven early in the fourth quarter before the Wildcats scored the last two goals to win the game.

First Hat-Track & First Goals

Cameron Flynn recorded her first career hat trick in Saturday's win over Florida Tech, netting four goals to double her former career high of two.

Maverick freshman Lilly Osterman then scored her first two career goals in Monday's game against Northern Michigan.

Top Two

Through Thursday, the Mavericks have the top two goal scorers in the RMAC.  Carson Dickey has scored 16 goals in the Mavs' first six games and ranks third in goals per game with 2.67.  She had three straight games with four or more goals and has scored in five straight games.

Kaylee Kittle is second in total goals with 12 and is tied for eight with her 2.00 goal per game average.

Climbing the ladder

With 15 goals in her last four games alone, Carson Dickey has raised her career total to 87, which puts her eighth in program history.  Dickey started the season ranked 13th.

Dickey also now has 114 career points to rank 12th in program history.  She can tie former teammate Ali Bryant for tenth with just five more points.

Coach's Corner

Ashley Delaney is in her third year as the Mavs' head coach and her seventh on the CMU staff after serving as an assistant for the four previous seasons from 2020-23.

The Mavs have gone 11-6 in both of Delaney's previous years as a head coach and posted a 33-19 combined record in her four years as an assistant under two previous head coaches.

She was named as the RMAC Coach of the Year in 2025 after leading the Mavs to a share of the RMAC Regular Season Championship and to hosting rights of the RMAC Tournament for the first time in program history.

She also helped the Mavs win a share of the RMAC crown in 2023 when she was an assistant coach.  The Mavericks are a combined 56-36 with her on the coaching staff and have played in all five RMAC Tournament Championship games with her on the staff.

Counting this year, Delaney now has a 23-17 record as the Mavs' head coach.

She is 1-1 against Rockhurst as the Mavs' head coach and 3-1 while on the Maverick sideline.

Know Your Foe

The Rockhurst Hawks are beginning a 4-game stretch on Colorado's front range with a perfect 4-0 record after sweeping a Feb. 19-22 swing through North Carolina with wins over Barton, Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive.  They also started the season with an 18-10 win over Quincy on Feb. 8 and will play at UCCS on Friday afternoon before taking on the Mavs.

They also play at CSU Pueblo on Monday before wrapping up the trip at Regis next Wednesday (Mar. 11).

Through four games, they have doubled up their opponents in scoring, 64-32 and have averaged 16 goals per game.

Elise Magee leads the team with 15 goals and 17 points while Kaylee Lary has scored ten goals while assisting on four others.  Kylee Pickens and Katie Morgenthaler also have combined for 15 goals.

Pickens also had 44 draw controls while Lary leads the team with eight ground balls.

Courtney Miller and Kayla Stewart have split time in goal.  Miller has started three games and has posed a 10.03 goals against average and .436 save percentage.  Stewart started the other game and has a 5.07 goals against average and .545 save percentage.  Both net-minders have appeared in all four games.

Series History

The Mavs have dominated the all-time series with the Hawks, winning 12 of the 13 games.

However, the Hawks won last year's game by a 16-14 margin in what was CMU's season-opener on Feb. 14 in Kansas City.

The teams have played in each of the past three seasons.

They used to be Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals as Rockhurst was an associate member before departing for their current Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Sunday's game will be just the second neutral-site match-up.  The Mavs won a 2017 RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal game in Denver.

RMAC Network News

All of the Mavs' home and RMAC road games, will be streamed on the RMAC Network, which has moved to a pay-per-view model for the 2025-26 season.  This season, all RMAC athletic events broadcast by its 15 full-member institutions and associate members will only be available for purchase via a single-game pass or a monthly or annual subscription. Revenue generated by the network will be redistributed to the league's membership to enhance their programs.

RMAC fans can purchase monthly and annual subscriptions that will provide them with access to all regular-season, championship, and archived broadcasts on the RMAC Network. A monthly subscription costs $25, and an annual subscription costs $130. Single-game passes are available for $10, which grants access to a single game for 24 hours.

Additionally, a discounted annual subscription price will be available to students, faculty, and staff of each member institution throughout the year. Purchasing options and pricing for individual RMAC Championships will be announced closer to each event.
