COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Reed Roughton was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after he helped lead the Mavericks to a pair of conference road wins.
The redshirt junior out of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, set new career-highs for both ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (3) in the Mavs' 13-12 overtime win at arch-rival Westminster in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday night. He then added two more caused turnovers in Saturday's 17-6 win over Northwest Nazarene as the Mavs did not allow a second half goal.
He is the sixth different Maverick to receive an RMAC Player of the Week honor this season.
The Mavericks, who are ranked 16
th in
Monday's weekly edition of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's NCAA Division II Coaches Poll, are now 8-2 overall and lead the RMAC standings at 5-0 through the first half of the double round robin conference schedule.
The Mavs also lead the RMAC in scoring defense, conceding just 8.70 goals per game, including an average of 7.20 in their five conference games.
The Mavs will look to extend their 4-game winning streak on Saturday when they host Adams State (2-6, 2-3 RMAC) in their Senior Day game at 1 p.m.
