COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Connor Jensen and
Shaden Shields swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Jensen, a redshirt junior attack from Brentwood, Tennessee, earned the offensive award for the second time in his career after he recorded four goals while assisting on three others in the Mavs' first two games of their Florida trip, which wraps up on Tuesday at Flagler in St. Augustine.
Shields, a junior goalie from Naples, Florida, earned his fourth career defensive honor after he made 26 saves in the Mavs' two games. He tallied a season-high 15 in Sunday's game against then fourth-ranked Tampa after tallying 11 saves in the Mavs' 16-12 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday in Tampa.
Jensen registered a hat trick, his first of the season, while adding two assists in the win over PBA and then tallied another goal and an assist against Tampa.
Now 4-1 on the season, the Mavericks continue to sit in the No. 10 spot of the
United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, which once again released on Monday.
Tampa moved up a spot to third and snagged one of the first place votes.
The Mavericks will conclude their trip to Florida and the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday when they take on the Flager Saints, receiving votes in the USILA poll.. That game will begin at 2 p.m. EDT (Noon Mountain).
