The CMU Lady Mav spring 7s season started off with a trip down south to Socorro, New Mexico. The team traveled light due to injury and prior commitments but nevertheless competed well. Dominant performances from former DI All American
Chloe Coop and current DII All American
Reese Williams, as well as grit and strength from freshman
Bentley Steyaert, led to all three women making the All-Tournament team.
Â
The Mavs set the stage for another impressive season as the team of 10 walked away 3-0 in pool play against El Paso Women's team, CU Boulder, and New Mexico State University.
Bri Schultz is welcomed back as she spent the fall semester studying abroad. Solid team play and big runs was the name of the game. Multiple poaches, steals on the outside, and big tackles helped the ladies secure a spot in the Championship match. This time the Mavs would not get the best of CU as some early errors led to a hole the Mavs could not dig out of. Ladies take second in New Mexico Tech.
Â
The team hits the road again headed to the University of Denver March 9th, before they host the DII National Qualifier March 29. The home tournament will be at Palisade Punchbowl Park, due to construction on the CMU rugby pitch.
