COLORADO SPRINGS, CO.- Colorado Mesa travels to Colorado Springs to take on defending National Champions the United States Air Force Academy.

The Mavericks had their toughest test of the season as they were on the road this past weekend. The No. 1 ranked and last year's National Champion looked to end the Mavs winning streak. In game one, the Mavs would come in looking overly cautious, and it would hurt them as 40 seconds in; Air Force would find the back of the net. They would triple their lead over them Mavs by the end of the period. The Mavericks would try to find their footing, but Air Force would increase their lead with three more goals in the second period. Colorado Mesa conceded two more goals in the third for a final score of 8-0.
Colorado Mesa had a day to regroup before taking on Air Force again, and it would prove to help as the Mavs came out of the gate looking like a different team. The Mavs took the game to Air Force, creating a back and forth, fast paced first period. Despite both teams' best efforts, the game would be scoreless after one. In the second, the Mavs would get their chance to put up the first goal with multiple power plays including a 5-on-3 advantage. As time ticked down on the final man advantage Air Force would jump on a Mav mistake wiring a shot into the top corner of the net to take the 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal. In the third, the Mavs would try to get back in the game with multiple chances but they made one mistake that would end up in the back of their net. The Mavericks would fall 2-0. Huge shoutout to Maverick's goaltender
John Hickam for his 54 save performance on Sunday.
The Mavericks are back at home this weekend as they host Arizona State University on Friday night and Saturday Morning. The Mavericks will have a Halloween themed tailgate and skate before Friday night's game.
