SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team opened play at the Westminster Wasatch Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 21) afternoon at Glenmoor Golf Course.
At the conclusion of today's opening round, the Mavericks are in seventh place on the team leaderboard with room to improve in tomorrow's second and final round. They shot 317 as a team which was three strokes behind sixth place Colorado Christian and just six strokes behind a top-5 placing where Dominican currently stands.
MSU Denver currently leads the standings after a first round of 302.
Senior
Anju Ogi led the Mavericks in the first round as she shot a 2-over, 74 which put her in a tie for sixth place on the leaderboard. Ogi is just one shot back of the leaders as five golfers shot 1-over, 73 to top the chart.
Ogi had three birdies and five bogeys as she opened the round with a bogey on her first hole and closed with a birdie on her 18
th and final hole of the day.
Sophomore
Hunter Gledhill fired a 6-over, 78 to finish her opening round in a tie for 16
th. Gledhill had a birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4, No. 14.
Payton Panzeri and
Hayden Hawley rounded out the Mavericks scorers. Panzeri shot a 7-over, 79 while Hawley carded a 14-over, 86.
Tomorrow's second and final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30am.
