Eleven Maverick women claim 15 All-RMAC honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Eleven Colorado Mesa University women's track & field athletes received a combined 15 All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors that were officially announced on Monday in conjunction with the conference's post-season major awards announcement.

First team all-conference accolades are given to the first, second and third place finishers in each individual event at last month's RMAC Championships as well as to members of the winning relay teams.  Second team plaudits are given to the fourth, fifth and sixth place finishers in the individual events and to members of the runner-up relay teams.

Gaby Horton led the Maverick contingent, receiving three total All-RMAC certificates including first team honors in both the 100 and 200 meters and another second team honor alongside 4x100-meter relay teammates Serenity Burnett-Perry, Sylvia Johansen and Kammi Merritt.  Horton took third in both the 100 and 200 and anchored the relay team a school-record and NCAA Division II Championship qualifying time of 45.16 seconds and a second place finish.

Brooke Miller, who took second in the 800 meters as the first ever Maverick woman to earn a RMAC Championship medal in that discipline, and freshman Kaitlyn Pearson, who took third in the heptathlon, also earned First Team All-RMAC honors.  Pearson was also a second team honoree in the 100-meter hurdles after finishing fifth in that event.

Merritt was also a 2-event honoree, placing sixth in the 400-meter hurdles after running on the 4x100-meter relay team.

CMU's other Second Team All-RMAC honorees include Megan Hodges (5,000 meters), Kylie Mayer (Discus), Atahlia Mills (100 Hurdles), Christina Plamer (Shot Put) and Katie Thomson (Heptathlon).
