GREENWOOD, Ind. — On and off the court, Olivia Reed Thyne had a stellar junior season for the Colorado Mesa University women's basketball team.
On the court, the Mavericks' leading scorer and rebounder earned her second straight Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year award, a spot on the All-RMAC first team for the third straight season and a pair of All-America honors.
Off the court, Reed Thyne was selected First Team Academic All-America® by the College Sports Communicators on Wednesday (April 16) after making the Academic All-District® team and receiving her second straight RMAC Academic Player of the Year award.
The 6-foot junior forward from Windsor has a 3.93 GPA in fitness and health promotion and is the only junior on the five-player first team. She's the only RMAC player honored and one of six repeat honorees. Reed Thyne was a third team selection as a sophomore.
Reed Thyne is one of five CMU players to make the Academic All-America® team, along with Kelsey Siemons (2022), Sharaya Selsor (2014), Kelsey Sigl (2013) and Tonya Stites (1994). She is the Mavs' only two-time honoree, and only she and Stites made the first team.
She was one of four Mavericks to make the CSC Academic All-District® team, along with senior point guard Kylie Kravig, senior center Brooklyn Palmer and senior guard Riley Hayes. Reed Thyne and Kravig were moved forward to the All-America ballot.
Reed Thyne finished sixth in Division II in scoring at 22.1 points per game, and her 10.9 rebounds per game ranked 11th nationally.
Her 19 double-doubles were the fourth-most in Division II, and she scored in double figures in 30 of 31 games. She broke CMU's single-game scoring record that had stood since 1980 when she put up 45 points against Pittsburg State, which reached the Division II Final Four this season. Reed Thyne made a program-record 279 field goals this season, which ranked second in the nation. Her 57 percent field goal shooting ranked eighth.
Reed Thyne has scored 1,596 points, second all-time in program history, and has 974 rebounds, third in program history. She's on track to become only the third CMU women's player with more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career.
Grace Foster of Lubbock Christian, a senior with a 4.0 GPA in criminal justice, was selected the Division II Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year and is the only player on the first team with a higher GPA than Reed Thyne. A total of 16 players received Academic All-America® honors, six of whom have a 4.0 GPA either as undergraduate or graduate students.
