PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's golf team had four players break 80 in Monday's second round and claimed a strong fourth place finish out of 13 teams at the Southern Colorado Open, which wrapped up here at Walking Stick Golf Course.
Freshman
Hunter Gledhill matched her season-best with a round of 75 on the 6,000-yard, par-72 layout as the Mavericks posted a Monday team score of 310 (+22) and a 36-hole tournament total of 612 (+36), just one off their season-best.
CMU had carded a season-best 302 in Sunday's first round and was tied for fourth place heading into the second day.
Brittlynn O'Dell and
Cassidy Phelan also carded identical rounds of 78 on Monday while
Payton Panzeri signed for a 79 to round out the Mavs' team score.
Gledhill, who hails from Herriman, Utah, had a steady second round, recording two birdies while making just three bogeys and one double bogey. In the process, she moved up to be a part of a 9-player tie for 14
th place with a tournament total of 153 (+9). That score and finish is the best of her season to date.
Meanwhile, O'Dell and Phelan were just ahead of Gledhill in the final standings, tying each other for 12
th place at 152 (+8) after both had posted round of 74 in Sunday's first round. O'Dell made three birdies on Monday while Phelan registered two.
Panzeri finished in a tie for 25
th at 155 (+11) also made two birdies on Tuesday.
McKenzie Dolph finished 61
st at 170 (+26) and posted an 87 on Monday.
Mackenzie Goudreau, playing as an individual was just one shot further back, taking 62
nd place at 171 (+27). She singed for an 84 on Monday.
The Mavericks will next be in action on Apr. 12-12 when they host the Maverick Challenge at The Golf Club at Redlands Mesa in Grand Junction. That event will be their final tune-up for the Apr. 20-22 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Boulder City, Nevada.
