TUCSON, Ariz.— The Colorado Mesa University beach volleyball team wrapped up their weekend and Spring Break road trip to California and Arizona on a high note, claiming a 3-2 win over Central Arkansas in their final match of the Arizona Invitational here on the Wildcats' Bear Down Beach.
 
With the dual tied at one after the first wave, the Mavericks picked up wins on Courts 3 and 1 in the second wave to seize the win, their third of the season against NCAA Division I opponents, while improving 12-7 overall.
 
The Bears fell to 9-10 as both teams finished the weekend round-robin tournament with 1-2 marks.
 
Top flight Maverick pair Ellie Ask and Gracyn Spresser delivered the clinching point, winning 21-19, 21-16 over Anna Liskey and Riley Melton.
 
Meanwhile, CMU's Barett Nolan and Ania Swartzendruber had earlier set up the clincher, claiming a 21-16, 21-7 victory at No. 3 to give the Mavs a 2-1 lead.
 
Taylor Scherff and Jessica Passi also claimed an important victory during the first wave, winning 21-15, 24-22 over Naya Tan and Reegan Siewert at No. 4
 
The Bears' two wins came in three sets as Madelyn White and Kenzie Foley edged CMU's Riley Daugherty and Lizzy Hood, 11-21, 21-17, 22-20 at No. 2 to level the dual at 1. 
 
Liliana Irizaray and Audrey Cathcart then squeaked past Maverick pair Stormi Tadlock and Lauren Rohlwing, 21-18, 16-21, 15-12 at No. 5 after the team outcome had been determined.
 
Brooke Hartman and Sofia Kolbe also won at "6's" for the Mavs 21-17, 21-14 for CMU in an exhibition contest.
 
CMU will be at home next Friday and Saturday, hosting Emmanuel (Ga.) and Trinidad State in a pair of tri-duals.
