INDIANAPOLIS— Five Colorado Mesa University Maverick divers officially joined their swimming counterparts in this week's NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships as they were able to successfully navigate Tuesday's Pre-Championship Diving Qualification meet.
Talia Datilio,
Mimi Licht and
Kenya Meyer were able to qualify for the Maverick women
Ryan Campbell and
David Roethlisberger were able to do so for the CMU men.
Seven other Mavericks were unable to do so.
Licht and Roethlisberger also qualified in 2024.
A total of 18 men and 22 women qualified thanks to their Tuesday performances.
Campbell took care of business in the opening session, scoring 301.40 points on six dives off the 3-meter board to place third out of 36 men. With the top nine safely through to the official championship,
which also got underway Tuesday with the 800-yard freestyle swimming relays, Campbell went on to take fifth out of 37 entrants on the 1-meter in the afternoon session.
He was one of seven men to double qualify, which freed up seven more spots for those that finished outside of the top nine on the two boards, who were selected in descending order alternating between the 1 and 3-meter boards.
Roethlisberger took advantage of that as he placed 12
th on the 3-meter with a score of 259.80 points to take one of those seven additional spots. The sophomore went on to place 18
th on the 1-meter with 249.85 points.
Fellow Maverick sophomore
Ty Mitton ended up just one place short as he finished 14
th on the 3-meter with 246.45 points as the cut off ended up being 13
th place.
On the women's side, Datilio and Meyer took fifth and sixth on the 3-meter board, which was contested in the second session. They were amongst the top 11, who automatically qualified.
Meanwhile, Licht was able to claim the sixth of the seven additional spots, freed up by those who double qualified. She took 18
th on the 1-meter with 208.55 points. Meyer led the Mavs on that board, taking 14
th out of 45 divers with 216.35 points while Datilio was just two places behind with a score of 214.50.
CMU sophomore
Juli Holt was also a near miss, taking 19
th on the 3-meter with a score of 215.75 points. If she would have finished 18
th, she would have advanced.
Jenna Hurley finished 24
th in the 3-meter (206.05) and 25
th in the 1-meter competition (199.25) while
Emma Lence was 25
th on the 3-meters (201.20) and 30
