GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Taking to the road for a two week four-game road stretch, the #20 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team heads South this coming weekend as they look to continue their strong play against RMAC competition.
Taking on both New Mexico Highlands and Adams State University, the Mavericks will face off with the Cowgirls on Friday afternoon at 1 P.M. before taking on the Grizzlies on Sunday at 1 P.M. as well.
LAST WEEK'S GAME
The Mavs, ranked 23rd in last week's national poll, extended their winning streak to five in a row while posting their fourth straight shutout with a comfortable 4-0 win over Black Hills State on Sunday.
The Mavs outshot the Yellow Jackets, 23-6 in the victory as Parker Mairs scored 12th and 57th minute goals to lead the way.
Olivia Bariao-Arce and Savanah Miller also scored in the victory while Keely Wieczorek made a trio of saves to pick up the shutout, her seventh of the season.
The Mavs are now 9-0-1 all-time against Black Hills State and have won each of the last seven games in shutouts since 2019.
CMU is now 7-0 at home this season and have yet to concede a single home goal. They are unbeaten in their last 15 home games (14-0-1) over the past two seasons.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
Remaining as a top-3 team in the conference for both offense and defense, the Mavs have scored 23 goals this season to rank third while only conceding four on defense to rank second.
They currently hold a 2.30 scoring average which is the second-highest mark in the RMAC, while their .40 goals against average is ninth in the nation.
Offensively leading the way for the team has been Kylie Wells this season with the Senior owning eight goals and two assists. Wells' eight goals tie her for first in the conference with her owning 21 in her career at Colorado Mesa. She also ties for first in the conference with four game-winners.
Parker Mairs ranks second on the team with three goals as she scored all three of them this past week.
Beyond Wells and Mairs, the quartet of Sarah Dunn, Olivia Bariao-Arce, Ellie Duncan and Brooklyn Baird have all scored two goals each.
12 different players have recorded at least one assist with no one on the squad owning more than two.
Keely Wieczorek continues to hold down the net, owning 35 saves this year with seven shutouts. Her seven shutouts are best in the conference with her save percentage sitting at .897. In her career she now has 27 shutouts.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Beginning their trip in Las Vegas, New Mexico against the Cowgirls, New Mexico Highlands has struggled this season while owning a rough 1-8 record and sitting at 0-5 in RMAC play.
This past week they lost both of their games played while losing 9-0 to Fort Lewis and 3-0 to Western Colorado. This season they have been outscored 34-3 and haven't scored a goal in game since their 2-1 loss to Black Hills State on Sept. 26.
They have been shut out six times with their lone winning coming as a 1-0 win over Sul Ross State.
Three different players have one goal each with that trio being Kate Rayner, Ninon Rigal and Lina Villanueva.
The goalkeeping crew has been split between four different players with the group combining for 53 saves and allowing 3.78 goals per game.
Finishing against Adams State on Sunday, the Grizzlies are 6-3-2 this season while going 2-2-1 in the RMAC so far.
In this last week of action, the Grizzlies played to a 0-1-1 record with them tying Western Colorado 1-1 before falling 2-0 to Fort Lewis College.
Their six wins this season already double last year's total with them struggling in 2024 going 3-12-2.
So far to this point they have outscored opponents 18-9 while having one of the conference leaders in goals scored with Fatso Williams owning eight to tie for first.
Beyond Williams, Grace Abbott serves as the team's other top performer with five goals and three assists.
Ashlyn Bartley has patrolled the net holding opponents to just 0.83 goals per game and recording 34 saves. She has been apart of all five shutouts this season.
Before hosting the Mavs on Sunday the Grizzlies welcome Westminster University on Friday.
