PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team completed the first round of the NCAA West Region Preview on Monday (Oct. 13) at Pueblo Country Club, home of the NCAA South Central / West Super Region Championship in May.
The Mavericks finished the first round in a tie for 17
th place with a 38-over, 322. They finished alongside RMAC foe Fort Lewis and Angelo State and narrowly behind Westminster, West Texas A&M, Texas A&M-International and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Nationally ranked Dallas Baptist leads host CSU Pueblo by 11 strokes at 5-over, 289.
Sophomore
Hunter Gledhill is in the hunt for a top-10 finish after shooting an opening round 5-over, 76. After opening the round with four bogeys in her first six holes, Gledhill bounced back with seven pars, three bogeys and two birdies. Her birdies came on the par-4, No. 4 and the par-5, No. 7 which positioned her at No. 18 after the round.
Anju Ogi and
Payton Panzeri shot matching 10-over, 81s and are tied for 69
th place after round one. Each finished with the exact same stats as they both had nine bogeys, a double and a birdie.
Hayden Hawley was the Mavericks number four scorer on the day at 13-over, 84.
MSU Denver's Neige Dunn leads the tournament by two strokes at 2-under, 69.
The second and final round of the tournament will be contested on Tuesday morning.
