COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced their annual Brechler Awards on Monday (July 1) morning. The Brechler awards are given to the programs with the best team grade-point average in the conference with one going to each of the sponsored sports.
Colorado Mesa had one program claim a Brechler Award, men's wrestling was named the recipient with a 3.396 team GPA. The Mavericks had four first team honorees and a total of 14 student-athletes named to the RMAC All Academic Team while checking in at No. 3 on the NWCA Scholar All-America Team list.
Oran Huff and
Gus Dalton were also recently named to the CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team and were placed on the Academic All-America ballot. To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-America list, they had to have a 3.50 GPA and at least a sophomore athletically and academically.
The RMAC Brechler Awards are named in honor of Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner (1976-90), and his wife Wanda Brechler, who were the inaugural inductees into the RMAC Hall of Fame. Each team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total quality points by the total number of credits for each semester. Team GPAs were submitted to the RMAC office by each institution's compliance administrator.
