NEW ORLEANS— Colorado Mesa University high jumper
Josie Coffey was named as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's NCAA Division II Field Athlete of the Year for the recently completed 2024 outdoor season, it was announced on Monday.
The senior out of Lakewood, Colorado is the first Maverick woman to ever win the regional honor after men's teammate Eddie Kujak won the men's indoor honor in March to become the Mavs' first regional athlete of the year.
Coffey finished fifth at the NCAA Division II Championships to earn her fifth career all-America honor from the USTFCCCA. She had also won her fifth Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title and ended the season as the national performance list co-leader with her season-best clearance of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10 ¾ inches) at the Maverick Invitational.
The Bear Creek High School graduate has also won All-South Central Region honors in the high jump during all eight seasons of her collegiate career and has been named as the region's top performer four times.
