PUEBLO, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's 4x100-meter relay team posted their second best time in program history and finished 15
th in the preliminary round of that event at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which got underway on Thursday here at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.

Antone Higgs also represented the Mavs on the first of the 3-day meet, tying for 21
st place in the men's long jump.
The Maverick relay team made up of
Serenity Burnett-Perry,
Sylvia Johansen,
Kammi Merritt and
Gaby Horton finished in 45.69 seconds, only shy of their school-record and national championship qualification time of 45.16 seconds from last month's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
They were seeded 15
th and finished in that place as Johansen, a sophomore, and Merritt, a freshman made their national championship debuts. Burnett-Perry, a senior, also ran on the Mavs' 2022 NCAA Championship team as a freshman. Horton, a junior had run in the 200 meters at the 2024 outdoor and 2025 indoor championships but was on a national championship meet relay team for the first time.
Higgs, who also competed at the 2025 indoor meet, turned in a mark of 6.97 meters (22 feet, 10 ½ inches) on his second attempt but fouled on his first and third attempts in the long jump.
Teo Casados will round on the Maverick contingent at the meet and will run in the 200-meter preliminaries on Friday evening at 5:45 p.m. He is seeded third.
