Viger, Anderson Win RMAC Special Awards

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Kelsey Viger won her second consecutive RMAC Defensive Player of the Year award while Justine Anderson became the first RMAC Attacker of the Year in CMU women's lacrosse program history as the conference office announced its all-conference teams and special award winners on Wednesday.

Viger, Anderson and senior defender Larkin Daly were all named to the All-Conference First Team while attacker Carson Dickey and midfielder Peyton Ivey were both named Second Team selections. Four Mavericks earned All-RMAC Honorable Mention status – Caroline Ohngemach, Elizabeth Renken, Emme Rezoski and Taylor Scott.

RMAC individual awards and all-conference rosters are nominated and voted on by the league's six head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for themselves or their student-athletes.

Colorado Mesa's three first-team honorees and nine total honorees were both second-most in the conference to league champions Regis. The Rangers and Mavericks combined for 10 of the league's 12 first team selections and Regis won the conference's Midfielder of the Year, Goalie of the Year and Coach of the Year awards. UCCS's Sarah Urbanic was named the conference's Freshman of the Year.

Viger repeated as the conference's Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first two-time special award winner in program history. She also became the first CMU women's lacrosse player to earn three First Team All-RMAC selections.

Viger leads the conference with 37 caused turnovers and 2.85 caused turnovers per game, which also ranks seventh in all of Division II. Viger also ranks fourth in the RMAC and 24th in Division II with 3.15 ground balls per game. She also won three RMAC Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2024, the only RMAC player this season to receive three weekly awards on either offense or defense.

The redshirt senior became the school's all-time leader in career caused turnovers this season as well, passing alum Olivia Hayden's mark of 130. As of the start of the RMAC Tournament, Viger has racked up 142 CTs and counting in her career.

Justine Anderson wins the RMAC Attacker of the Year award after leading the conference with 3.4 goals per game, 4.2 points per game and 7.07 shots per game. A sophomore from Colorado Springs, Anderson has now won First-Team All-RMAC honors in each of her two collegiate seasons.

Anderson scored multiple goals in all but one game against RMAC competition this season, including a seven-goal explosion against Fort Lewis on April 12. Anderson scored six goals on three separate occasions this season, against Rockhurst on March 20, UCCS on April 7 and Dominican on April 26.

Anderson won two RMAC Offensive Player of the Week awards this season, including this past weekend after scoring 10 goals across CMU's final two games of the regular season. Not just a goal scorer, Anderson also ranks fourth on the team with 12 assists and third on the team with 10 caused turnovers.

After two previous Honorable Mention All-RMAC selections, Larkin Daly makes the leap to a First Team All-RMAC selection in her senior season. The defender from University Place, Washington frequently was assigned to the opposition's top attacking player and helped the Mavericks to a 9.85 goals-against average.

Daly ranks third on the team in both ground balls (26) and second in caused turnovers (14). Daly also helped the Mavericks to the best clear percentage in the RMAC, often using her speed to single-handedly take the ball into the offensive end once the Mavs gained possession.

Carson Dickey and Peyton Ivey both earn the first all-conference nods of their careers with their second-team selections in 2024. Dickey ranks second on the team and seventh in the RMAC with 32 goals this season, including a career-high six goals against UCCS, CMU's upcoming opponent in Friday's RMAC Tournament semifinals. The Murrieta, California native scored five hat tricks on the season.

On the offensive end, Ivey scored nine goals with 14 assists (tied for second on the team and for fifth in the RMAC) while also accumulating 10 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and 27 draw controls. The senior had three assists in two separate games this season – against CSU Pueblo on April 14 and UCCS on April 19.

Four Maverick players received Honorable Mention All-RMAC status, including three receiving their first career all-conference recognition. Caroline Ohngemach ranked third on the team with 17 goals and led the Mavs while ranking third in the RMAC with 16 assists. Elizabeth Renken finished the regular season with 12 goals and 14 assists and has scored multiple points in six of CMU's last seven games. Emme Rezoski was the Mavericks' face off ace, racking up 78 draw controls and setting the program single-game record with 17 against Fort Lewis.

Senior defender Taylor Scott was CMU's final honorable mention selection, marking the third straight year with an All-RMAC honorable mention for the Parker, Colorado native. Scott has 18 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers this season while maintaining a 4.0 GPA which helped her win the RMAC Summit Award, the conference's top academic honor, last season.

The Mavericks begin the 2024 postseason as the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament this weekend. The Mavs have a semifinal game against No. 3 seed UCCS on Friday at 7 p.m., with hopes of facing the winner of No. 1 Regis and No. 4 Westminster in the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m. Colorado Mesa has lost in the RMAC Tournament championship game in each of the last two seasons.
