IRVINE, Calif.— As expected from last week's rankings and the results of weekend play, the Colorado Mesa University women secured a spot in their fourth straight Pacific West Conference Tennis Championships to be held Apr 17-20 in Surprise, Arizona.
The Maverick men were not selected.
CMU's women were once again tabbed 12
th in this week's conference rankings, which also determined the field of 12 teams for the women's tournament. The final seeds will be announced this Sunday evening and will factor in results from the final week of regular season play, which will see the Mavs play three home matches in two days on Friday and Saturday at the Elliott Tennis Center.
The winner of the PacWest Championship will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Maverick men held on to their No. 9 ranking, just one spot shy of qualification, reserved for the top eight teams in the rankings.
The Maverick women have compiled a 2-7 record against fellow PacWest foes this spring and have a 7-11 record against NCAA Division II opponents. They are 10-13 overall and will play CSU Pueblo on Friday morning at 11 a.m. before hosting Division III Colorado College and PacWest rival MSU Denver on Saturday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
CMU's men are 1-8 against PacWest foes and have a 3-12 record against Division II opposition. They are 7-13 overall and will close out the regular season on Saturday playing Colorado College and MSU Denver as well.
Senior Day festivities for both the Maverick men and women will be held on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. prior to the matches against the Tigers.
