BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team has three players tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard to keep the Mavericks in contention at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Mavericks tied for the low team total of the day with day two leader CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian as each shot a 19-over, 307. They continue to trail the ThunderWolves by 10 strokes but moved ahead of Regis by three strokes and are up six strokes on the Cougars.
Three Mavericks are in a large grouping of competitors in a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard at 6-over, 150.
Cassidy Phelan made the largest jump, moving up eight spots on the leaderboard after a 4-over, 76 in the round. The Henderson, Nev. native started off hot picking up birdies on back-to-back holes on No. 3 and No. 4 before a run of bogeys in four of the final five holes on the front nine.
She scored two birdies on the back nine along with two bogeys and a double.
Brittlynn O'Dell and
Crystle Querol continue to play partner golf with each shooting 5-over, 77 in the round. Querol didn't have a birdie in her round but only had the five bogeys while O'Dell had two birdies, five bogeys and a double.
Sadie Kelley matched her teammates with a 5-over, 77 to round out the Maverick scorers.
CSU Pueblo's Freya Constable, the first round leader, continues to lead at even-par for the tournament.
The Mavericks are in the final groupings of the tournament and their tee times are scheduled to begin at 9:45am Pacific.
