BOULDER CITY, Nev. –
Brittlynn O'Dell and
Crystle Querol led the Colorado Mesa women's golf team in the first round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday (Apr. 21) afternoon at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
O'Dell shot a 1-over, 73 and stayed in the hunt for the individual medalist honor just four strokes off the lead in a tie for sixth place. The local Grand Junction native stayed steady in her round playing the front side to even par with a birdie and a bogey.
She was able to make a birdie on the par-5, No. 13 hole to go to 1-under in her round but had a tough go at the final hole of the day on No. 18 where she recorded a double-bogey.
Querol played well all day in a course near her hometown of Henderson, Nev. She is tied with her teammate in sixth place after a 1-over, 73 after carding four bogeys and three birdies in the round. The senior was able to birdie No. 18 to bring her score down to 1-over.
Cassidy Phelan (2-over, 74) and
Sadie Kelley (6-over, 78) rounded out the Maverick scorers in the round.
South Dakota Mines' Annika Schooler and CSU Pueblo's Freya Constable each shot a 3-under, 69 to lead the medalist race.
The Mavericks are in a tie for third place after day one with a 10-over, 298. They are just a stroke behind second place Regis and are up just a stroke on fourth place MSU Denver and five strokes up on fifth place Chadron State.
CSU Pueblo is the day one leader after shooting an even-par, 288 as a team.
The Mavericks are set to tee off in round two at 10:45am Pacific.
