GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse earned a clean sweep of the conference's weekly awards, as sophomore
Justine Anderson was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week and redshirt senior
Kelsey Viger was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week.
The honor is the first of the season and career for Anderson, while Viger becomes the conference's first three-time award winner of 2024 and earns the fifth Defensive Player of the Week nod of her career.
Both Anderson and Viger are having phenomenal seasons, but kicked things up a notch over a milestone-filled weekend to be honored by the conference office.
Viger averaged six caused turnovers and five ground balls per game in CMU's two matches, a 17-6 win over Fort Lewis and a 16-3 win over CSU Pueblo. Viger recorded eight ground balls and five caused turnovers against the Skyhawks and two ground balls with seven caused turnovers against the ThunderWolves.
The seven caused turnovers were a single-game career high for Viger and also the RMAC single-game high this season. The eight ground balls against FLC were also a career high for the Minnesota native and tied for the RMAC single-game high this season.
With her first of 12 caused turnovers over the weekend, Viger became the program's all-time career leader in that category, breaking alum Olivia Hayden's previous mark of 130. After Sunday's game, Viger has 142 and counting in her career.
Anderson tallied a career-high seven goals in the win over Fort Lewis and added four against CSU Pueblo, along with an assist in each game. The seven goals are the second-highest single-game total in the RMAC this year and the highest against a fellow conference opponent.
Anderson currently leads the RMAC with 39 goals and ranks second with 48 points. She leads with 3.55 goals per game and 4.36 points per game. Including her performances this past weekend, Anderson has scored a hat trick or better in six of the Mavericks' 11 games and scored five or more goals four times.
The Maverick women's lacrosse team heads on the road this weekend to face UCCS (4-7, 2-4 RMAC) on Friday at 4 p.m. and Regis (12-1, 6-0 RMAC) on Sunday at noon.
