LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team capped off a solid start to the spring season as they placed second at the Southwest Minnesota State Challenge on Friday (Mar. 8) at Wigwam Golf Club's Blue Course.
The Mavericks shot a 23-over, 311 to finish the tournament at 44-over, 620 and finished just one stroke behind team champion Minnesota State who shot a two-round score of 619 (16-over on Friday). They were seven strokes better than Chadron State and 14 strokes better than South Dakota Mines.
Junior
Cassidy Phelan tied for the medalist honors for the second straight tournament as she finished with a 5-over, 149. She shot 5-over on the day and carded a birdie and five bogeys. Her lone birdie of the round came on the par-4, 329-yard, No. 12.
Phelan tied with Minnesota State's Anna Cihak for the medalist honor.
Myranda Kotlowski had the top score of the day for Colorado Mesa as she carded a 4-over, 76. Kotlowski finished the round with three birdies and seven bogeys but was stronger as the round went on. On her first nine, she had six bogeys and a birdie but closed the tournament with a 1-under, 34 on the back nine to finish in a tie for 14
th on the individual leaderboard.
Payton Panzeri and
Sadie Kelley each shot a 7-over in the round to finish as the Mavericks other two scorers.
Colorado Mesa will be back on the links on March 24 when they travel to Pueblo for the Southern Colorado Open.
