LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Junior
Cassidy Phelan led the Colorado Mesa women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invitational at Wigwam Golf Course on Tuesday (Mar. 5) evening.
Phelan shot 3-over, 147 to finish in a tie for first place and a share of the medalist honors with Western New Mexico's Brooklynn Maes. In today's second round, the Henderson, Nev. native carded a 1-over, 73 after four birdies, three bogeys and a double. After going out at 2-over, 38, she closed with a 1-under, 35 including a birdie on the par-3, No. 17.
Brittlynn O'dell also had a solid day on the course as she shot an even-par, 72 in her final round to finish in a tie for seventh place on the leaderboard. She had two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars on her card.
Payton Panzeri shot a 1-over, 73 and
Myranda Kotlowski carded a 6-over, 78 to round out the Maverick scorers.
Colorado Mesa finished in third place as a team just six shots back of the first-place tie between Missouri Western and Western New Mexico. The Mavericks shot the second best score of any team in the field today as they fired an 8-over, 296 and finished with a 29-over, 605.
The Mavericks will be back in action in Arizona on Thursday competing in the Southwest Minnesota State Challenge at Wigwam's Blue Course.
