LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team started their spring season on Monday (Mar. 4) afternoon at the Southwest Minnesota State Spring Invitational at Wigwam Golf Course's Red Course.
Following the first round of action, the Mavericks sit in third place as a team with a 21-over, 309 while using their four best scores. They trail Missouri Western by four strokes and current leader Western New Mexico by 11 strokes.
Junior
Cassidy Phelan started the spring season on a solid note as she currently sits in a tie for third on the leaderboard. Phelan shot a 2-over, 74 in her first round of the tournament as she carded four birdies, four bogeys and a double. She shot 1-over on both front and back sides of the course with two birdies on each side as well.
Sadie Kelley was the Mavericks No. 2 golfer on the day as she finished with a 5-over, 77. Kelley had two birdies, five bogeys and a double with both birdies coming on the front nine. She is in contention for a top-10 finish as she is currently in a tie for 13
th place.
Brittlynn O'dell fired a 6-over, 78 while
Payton Panzeri shot an 8-over, 80 to round out the Maverick scorers.
The second and final round of the tournament will be tomorrow morning.
