COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— After winning the high jump with his outdoor personal-best and moving into the second spot on the NCAA Division II Championship performance list, Colorado Mesa University
Eddie Kurjak was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Field Athlete of the Week.
The award his third of the 2023-24 academic year after claiming two such awards during his record-setting season.
The Maverick junior out of Longmont, Colorado, cleared 2.15 meters (7 feet, 0 ½ inches) to win the event at last weekend's season-opening CSU Pueblo Spank Basing Invitational and leads the RMAC Performance list by 9 centimeters (3 ½ inches). In the process, he moved up to second on the Mavs' all-time outdoor performers list. He also set an outdoor personal-best of 7.14 meters (23-5.25) in the long jump to move into the No. 5 spot on the Mavs' all-time outdoor performance list.
Kurjak was named as the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association during the indoor season, which saw him become the first Maverick to ever earn two USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors during the same season thanks to a fourth place finish in the high jump and an eighth place finish in the triple jump at the national championships, held earlier this month.
He won the RMAC indoor title in the high jump and claimed the bronze medal in the triple jump.
The Mavericks are off this weekend before hosting three meets in the month of April, beginning with the Maverick Invite & Multi on Apr. 6-7. The Mavs will also host the RMAC Championships for the first time in program history from Apr. 26-28.
