LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Colorado Mesa University junior
Myah Arrieta was named as both the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by both the coaching organization and conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The Grand Junction native and Central High School product hit eight home runs and went 13-for-16, good for an .812 batting average, at the plate during the Mavs' series sweep of Black Hills State University on Friday and Saturday. Arrieta also had a double and scored 11 runs while driving in 14 throughout the series.
She was also named as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week on Mar. 7 of last season and becomes just the second Maverick in program history (AnnMarie Torres; 2019 & 2022) to receive the award twice. Brooke Hodgson (2018) and Ellie Smith (2021) are the program's other former recipients.
Arrieta had four home runs in each doubleheader and matched a CMU single-game record by hitting three in Game 3 of the series on Saturday after cranking out two home runs in both of Friday's games.
The shortstop also had a 2.375 slugging percentage and 3.118 OPS (on-base + slugging percentage) as the Mavericks recorded mercy-rule wins in all four games against the Yellow Jackets.
As a team, the Mavericks hit 26 home runs throughout the series, recording their three best home run totals in program history, including a school-record eight in the series opener.
Arrieta is now tied with teammate
Miranda Pruitt for the RMAC lead with 15 home runs and has taken over the conference lead with her 1.053 slugging percentage. She now ranks third in the NCAA Division II statistics with that mark while she and Pruitt are tied for third in country for home runs.
CMU has also taken over the national lead with their .686 team slugging percentage.
The Mavericks have won 13 straight games and are 23-7 overall and 21-3 in RMAC play.
They will play host to New Mexico Highlands in a 4-game series this week, which will begin with a 4 & 6 p.m. twilight doubleheader on Thursday.
