The Mavericks kicked off the Division I Spring 7s season with a solid tournament win. Going 4-0 on the day, the ladies started the spring off on the same foot they ended their DII National Championship spring 2023. The first match of pool play was against the host team. CMU came out early with Liz Thoma breaking through on the outside scoring less than a minute into the matchup. Ryleigh Blatnik converted on the kick making it 7-0 less than 2 minutes in. Carly Scheck scored next with a big run and a Nallely Robles conversion. Sarah Penick and Asha Downing each would touch down with one more conversion from Blatnik before half. 26-6 at halftime. CMU put in some fresh legs and the finishers continued strong. Penick and Scheck would add another 2 tries for the Mavs. 36-0 final match one.
 
The second match of pool play was easily the biggest challenge of the day for the Mavs. A strong and big CSU squad came out hitting. They stole the ball off of the kickoff and poached and rucked their way to the try line. Going up 5-0 two minutes into the match. CSU kept the gas pedal down and continued to surge on offense scoring again making it 10-0 five minutes in. CMU would start their comeback as time expired on the first half with Carly Scheck hitting a big gap after some nice offloads and ball movement. A Blatnik conversion made it 10-7 at the half. CMU regrouped and came out strong in the second half. Thoma started the scoring off and a Blatnik conversion gave the Mavs their first lead of the match 4 minutes in. CSU would answer back with another big break and run off a CMU turnover making it 15-14 CSU. A massive offload and big run by Penick led to a perfect dish to freshmen Pelham Wagenseil for the go ahead try at the end of time for CMU. Mavs walk away stealing the win at time 19-15.
 
The first match of cross play was against the CSU B side. Scheck started off the scoring early. Touching down in under a minute with some gritty offloads and support off the kickoff. Blatnik would put through a conversion and then score one of her own at 6 minutes making it 12-0 CMU. The Mavs would get some fresh legs into this matchup and CSU took their opportunity to score as the Mavs found their rhythm. CSU Bs converted on their Try closing the gab 12-7 3 minutes into the second half. Blatnik would tack on another try and conversion immediately after the CSU score and freshmen rookie Kenya Contreras would get her first try of her career with a big hard run up the middle of the pitch. Outrunning her appointment and almost tripping herself with her speed. CMU seals the deal on this one 24-7 and sent the team to the Championship matchup.
 
CMU faced off against Pool Bs top team, University of Wyoming. The Cowgirls put up a solid display of defense and hung with the Mavs throughout the first half. CMU had a hard time finding the gap and it took 6 minutes for Scheck to break through. Blatnik added a conversion making it 7-0 at half. The Mavs came out swinging and quickly added on another try and conversion by Blatnik giving the Mavs a little breathing room 1 minute into the second half. UW would score their only points at 3 minutes. Scheck closed out the weekend with another strong performance and hard earned try. CMU walk away 4-0 on the day and UNM 7s Champions after the season opener.
