Viger Wins Second Defensive POTW Award

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse defender Kelsey Viger earned her second consecutive RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award from the conference office on Monday.

Viger led CMU's defensive effort during a weekend in which the Mavs faced two regional opponents in Rockhurst and No. 12 UIndy. The redshirt senior had four ground balls and four caused turnovers in Wednesday's 13-9 win over Rockhurst before adding two ground balls and three caused turnovers in CMU's loss to the nationally-ranked Greyhounds.

Viger, last year's RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, has picked up where she left off since coming back for her fifth season. The Minnesotan ranks eighth in Division II and leads the RMAC with 3.0 caused turnovers per game having racked up 18 in Colorado Mesa's six contests. Viger also ranks sixth in the RMAC with 15 total ground balls.

Viger becomes the first two-time women's lacrosse weekly award winner in the RMAC this season among offensive or defensive players. Through four weeks of the 2024 season, Viger has matched the two Defensive Player of the Week awards she won last year during her eventual Defensive Player of the Year-winning campaign.

The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse program is back in action on Friday, continuing RMAC play on the road against Westminster. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
