PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's golf team competed at the Southern Colorado Open on Sunday (Mar. 24) afternoon at Walking Stick Golf Course. Both rounds of the tournament were contested on Sunday due to the impending weather impacting the entire state.
The Mavericks finished in a tie for seventh place on the team leaderboard as they fired a two-round total of 618 on the day. After shooting a 310 as a team in round one, the score improved slightly in the afternoon session as they fired a 308. They finished in a tie with South Dakota Mines and seven strokes behind sixth place Westminster.
CSU Pueblo won the team title as the host as they shot even-par, 576 in the two rounds, 10 strokes better than second place Simon Fraser.
Brittlynn O'dell led the Mavericks after shooting back-to-back 4-over, 76s in her two rounds. In her first round, she had two birdies, four bogeys and a double while in the afternoon session she had five bogeys paired with a birdie that came on her final hole of the day. The Grand Junction native finished in a tie for 21
st on the leaderboard.
Junior
Cassidy Phelan finished as the Mavericks second golfer at 9-over, 154 as she shot 79 in her first round and then a 2-over, 74 in her final round.
Myranda Kotlowski (154) and
Sadie Kelley (159) round out the Maverick scorers on the day.
CSU Pueblo's Kylie Severin and Simon Fraser's Meera Minhas tied for individual medalist honors at 4-under, 140.
