GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Kelsey Viger earned her first women's lacrosse RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award this season and the third of her career from the conference office on Monday.
The redshirt senior defender recorded three ground balls and four caused turnovers in each of Colorado Mesa's two wins this past week, anchoring a CMU defense which held conference opponents Fort Lewis and CSU Pueblo to a combined 11 goals in two matches.
Behind Viger and a defense which is allowing just under 10 goals per game, the Mavericks are 2-2 this season and off to a 2-0 start in RMAC play. Viger is averaging 2.75 caused turnovers per game, leading the RMAC and ranking 20
th in all of Division II.
This marks the first RMAC weekly honor of the season for CMU women's lacrosse. Viger previously took home Player of the Week awards on March 20 and April 24 of last season, when she also captured the RMAC's Defensive Player of the Year award at season's end.
The Mavericks have a pair of games coming up this week, going on the road to face Rockhurst University on Wednesday before returning home to play UIndy this Sunday.
