Olivia Reed: National Player of the Week

Forward's dominant weekend earns second accolade of season

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Only a sophomore, Olivia Reed has shown she's developing into one of the premier all-around basketball players in Division II.

For the second time this season, Reed has been voted the D2CIDA (Division II Conference Information Directors Association) national women's Division II Player of the Week. She's the first repeat winner of the award this season.

One day after receiving her third RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award, Reed's numbers from two victories last week earned her national recognition. The 6-foot forward from Windsor dominated the paint against Western Colorado and Westminster University, collecting 35 total rebounds and scoring 56 points in back-to-back victories.

Reed had a career-high 24 rebounds in a 76-60 double-overtime victory at Western Colorado, the first 20-rebound game for a Maverick player since 2000, and three off CMU's single-game record. She had 13 offensive rebounds, 11 defensive, blocked two shots and scored 30 points, tying her career and season high.

Two nights later, Reed scored 26 points and had 11 rebounds against Westminster, her eighth double-double of the season. She blocked three shots and had a career-high six assists in the 81-38 victory, leading the Mavericks to their largest margin of victory against the Griffins in the 20-game series.

She leads the RMAC and is fourth in the nation in rebounding at 11.5 per game and averages 17.6 points a game. She's second in field goal percentage (58.4) in the conference.

Reed was also honored by the D2CIDA after her opening-week performance in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in Burnaby, British Columbia.

The Mavericks, 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, have won five straight games entering this weekend's crucial conference road trip. CMU is in third place in the standings and play at second-place Regis University on Friday and at fourth-place CU-Colorado Springs on Saturday. The Mavs won the first meeting in the home-and-home series against both teams in December at Brownson Arena.
