GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — For the third time this season, Olivia Reed on Monday was selected the RMAC women's basketball Defensive Player of the Week after her dominant performance on the boards.
Reed, a 6-foot sophomore forward from Windsor, grabbed 35 rebounds in the Mavericks' two games last week, including a career-high 24 against Western Colorado, the most by a Maverick since 2000 and just three off the program single-game record. She had 11 defensive boards, 13 offensive, in the double-overtime victory, scoring 30 points, tying her season and career high, and blocked two shots. She recorded a double-double in each game, scoring 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds against Westminster, giving her eight this season.
Reed added blocked three shots against the Griffins, giving her 28 this season, as the Mavericks won their fifth straight game, the longest current winning streak in the RMAC.
The Mavericks, 17-4 overall and 11-3 in the conference, moved into third place in the conference standings entering this weekend, a crucial road trip to play at second-place Regis on Friday and fourth-place CU-Colorado Springs on Saturday. CMU remained ranked No. 8 in the D2 Collegiate Sports Communicators South Central Regional rankings this week, one spot behind Regis.
