Sabrina VanDeList was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Setter of the Week while the Maverick volleyball squad has moved up two spots to a season-best 14
th in the latest AVCA/TARAFLEX NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
Both announcements were made on Monday afternoon.
The Mavericks, 19-3 overall, have won 11 straight matches and recorded their first ever win over a No. 1 ranked team, winning at MSU Denver on Saturday afternoon in four sets. The Roadrunners dropped three spots to fourth in Monday's national poll.
VanDeList recorded her 49
th career double-double in Saturday's victory, recording 36 assists, 14 digs, three service aces and three blocks. She also had a career-high seven kills and hit .583. She had tallied 39 assists and seven digs as well as two service aces in Friday's RMAC Power Pod win over Regis at MSU Denver.
The fifth-year senior out of Severance, Colorado, has now won a league-high four RMAC Setter of the Week honors this year and 18 in her illustrious career. She is CMU's all-time leader in both career assists (4,765) and service aces (175).
The Mavericks have now been ranked in 37 straight AVCA polls since the first regular season poll of the 2022 season. They had fluctuated between 15th and 18
th this season, until Monday.
Undefeated Ferris State (24-0) is the new No. 1 team in the AVCA poll ahead of St. Cloud State and Cal Poly Pomona who also moved up one spot. They and MSU Denver (20-2) are all receiving first place votes.
Nebraska-Kearney, West Texas A&M and Chaminade all stayed in their No. 5-7 spots while Concordia St. Paul and Tampa switched spots. Wayne State (Neb.) also moved up a spot into the No. 10 spot.
CMU also holds a win over Concordia-St. Paul, ranked fifth in the country at the time, this season.
Angelo State, which defeated the Mavericks a week later, also moved up a spot to 13
th in this week's poll.
The Mavericks will play their next two matches at home, hosting New Mexico Highlands on Saturday at 4 o'clock before taking on Westminster next Tuesday (Nov. 12) at 6 p.m.
A win in either would guarantee the Mavs their fourth straight 20-win season and would allow them to clinch the right to host a RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal match as a top 4 seed on Tuesday, Nov. 19. They are currently in second place in the RMAC standings at 9-1, just a match behind MSU Denver (10-0). South Dakota Mines and Regis are tied for third at 7-3.
